The game of chess involves understanding and action. Once a move is made there is no going back. With one decision we can either advance unimpeded on our journey, or place the queen in a dangerous and vulnerable position. Thus we create ourselves through our actions. The child is an echo of the past. How often do we relive our childhood in nostalgic daydreams, wishing we could have made different decisions? Say 'no' instead of 'yes'? Turn left instead of right? But as we evolve we can make the choice to stop revisiting the past with regret, and accept the present. We can acknowledge our wisdom and personal responsibility, and show compassion to the child that we once were and still carry inside.
